What's Happening at Alcove!

Creatives Mixer is back this month!

Don’t miss our quarterly Creatives Mixer on November 26! This is a great way to get connected to the local arts community. Our Creatives Mixer brings together people that Alcove collaborates with, local creatives, individuals who work in the sector, supporters and key players such as (but not limited to) grants organizations, media outlets, government representatives, City Administration, property management groups, and Business Improvement Areas.

We will also be launching our 2025 Community Card at this event with new businesses and exciting editions! Be the first to learn more and get yours at the event!

This event is in partnership with Art for Social Change Network: Calgary Hub. (ASCN).

We are closed from November 9-12 for Remembrance Day weekend.

"What is Public Art?" Live Music Jam & Talk w/ Kindé

"What is Public Art?" is a new series that explores expanding the definition of what we believe is "public art" through activations & community conversations. This series is in partnership with Calgary Arts Development.

Join the Live music jam & talk led by Kindé on November 16, 3-5pm. The afternoon will begin with a window case activation of a producer's jam (open to all) followed by a public forum conversation led by Matias Martinez. There will be an "open mic" style sign-up at the doors if you would like to formally join the conversation.

Come down and let us know your thoughts and hopes for the future of Calgary's Public Art! Event is FREE and registration is not required!

‘Stories of this Land’ Community Mural

Come participate in our community mural, "Stories of this Land"! Led by Matias Martinez, we have been creating a collaborative mural that represents the diverse stories, landscape and people that live, work and play on this land. Come make your mark & tell your story!

Join Matias during the Art Sessions on November 7th and 23rd to work on the mural as a group. The final mural will be revealed and completed on November 29th, during our Final Reveal & Closing Party!

Artist2Artist Admin Work Cafe ft. Jared Tobias Herring

ARTIST2ARTIST ADMIN WORK CAFE is a place for artists & arts administrators to connect and grow their business, administrative efficiency, and expand their opportunities with partnerships. This is also a great space to connect with the grantors at Calgary Arts Development.

This registered series is hosted in collaboration with Calgary Arts Development. The topic on November 20th will be about learning how to "Finance your Practice" to work as an artist in this city. Led by mutli-disciplinary artist, Jared Tobias Herring, he will guide you through his journey of now being able to work as a full-time creative & artist.

Alcove Music Studio is CLOSED

We are sad to report that the Alcove Music Studio has closed its doors after a year of providing an affordable option for local musicians to rehearse and record.

Our team has decided to move towards an Artist Residency to focus on the development of a local musician, Pinky Rido. Pinky will be using the space to record her EP. Look out for her Album Release Party in December!

We’ll explore the possibility of re-opening the Music Studio under a new model next year. Till then, we hope to catch you music lovers at our next Jam Session!

*Friendly reminder to guests that hot food is not permitted in the space, with exceptions during special events. This is to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the recreational art space.
*Parking in the loading zone by the back door is not permitted, except for staff and facilitators/performers who have a workshop or performance at Alcove. Please do not park there otherwise.
